Wedding Photos Before the Ceremony Without a First Look

One of the questions I get asked most often is whether you can take wedding photos before the ceremony without doing a first look.

The answer is yes.

Laura and William knew they wanted to save that moment for the church. They had always imagined seeing each other for the first time as Laura walked down the aisle, so a traditional first look was never part of their wedding day. At the same time, they loved The Biltmore Hotel and wanted to take advantage of its beautiful architecture before heading to the ceremony.

Instead of choosing one or the other, we built a timeline that allowed them to have both.

Getting Ready at The Biltmore Hotel

Laura and William both got ready at The Biltmore Hotel, each in their own room with family.

One of the reasons I love when couples get ready at the same hotel is because the morning feels much more relaxed. Everyone is close by, there’s no rushing across town, and the timeline flows naturally.

The Biltmore is also one of my favorite places for getting-ready photos because every space feels elegant and timeless.

Wedding Photos Before the Ceremony Without Seeing Each Other

Before leaving for the church, Laura and William wanted to take wedding photos before the ceremony.

The only catch was that they didn’t want to see each other yet.

We found the perfect spot on one of the grand staircases at The Biltmore. Laura stood at the very top while William stayed below with his back turned. They were only a few feet apart, but they never saw each other.

Those ended up being some of my favorite images from the entire day.

They’re together in the same photograph, you can feel how excited they are, and they still got to keep the moment they’d been waiting for all morning.

Their First Look Happened at the Church

A little while later, everyone made their way to the church.

When the doors opened and Laura started walking down the aisle, that was the first time William saw her.

After waiting all morning, the moment felt exactly the way they had imagined it.

That’s one of the reasons I always remind couples that there isn’t a right or wrong decision when it comes to a first look. Your wedding timeline should reflect what’s most meaningful to you.

Celebrating Their Wedding at Barn305

After the ceremony, everyone headed to Barn305 for the reception.

It was the perfect way to end the day. Family and friends filled the room, the speeches had everyone laughing and tearing up, and once the music started, the dance floor stayed full for the rest of the night.

It was relaxed, joyful, and exactly the kind of celebration Laura and William had imagined.
